What is “recovered carbon black (rCB)”?
Recovered carbon black is the carbon-rich solid recovered when end-of-life tyres are broken down by pyrolysis, then freed of steel and fibre and milled to a usable grade. Under ASTM D8178 the term applies only to material processed in this way — untreated pyrolysis char is a different product and should not be described as rCB. It functions as a semi-reinforcing filler and pigment in place of virgin carbon black.

Is there a difference in the quality of rCB compared to virgin carbon black?
